BBQ Mitts

If you have done any amount of backyard barbecuing, you know how easy it is to get your hands in the wrong place and suffer a nasty burn.

Sometimes you may just wish you could get your hands in there to handle that unruly piece of meat. BBQ gloves let you do just that. You no longer have to depend solely on those unwieldy barbecue tools; instead, you can stick your hands right in and get the job done right. But before you do, make sure you choose the right pair.

BBQ MittsBasic BBQ Mitts

BBQ gloves need to fulfill two basic requirements: they must have enough pliability to allow a fair amount of dexterity, and they must have enough heat resistance to protect hands from burning. Manufacturers have come up with all kinds of different materials to accomplish these goals including leather, rawhide, treated cotton, neoprene, Kevlar, Nomex, and silicone.

Materials that focus solely on heat protection often sacrifice pliability. This results in mitts that are hard to maneuver and can lead to accidental dropping or smashing of food. On the other hand, a focus on pliability can sacrifice heat resistance, resulting in uncomfortably hot temperatures, sweating, and burns. The best mitts are those that successfully meet both criteria.

What to Look For in BBQ Mitts

  • Flare-Up Protection–BBQ grilling invariable involves unexpected flame flare-ups. It is important that the BBQ gloves you choose not only resist the radiant heat of extended periods close to the flame, but also withstand actual contact with the flames. If they fail to do so, they may ignite and cause serious burns to the hands. Cotton gloves tend to be the least flare-up safe, but watch the stitching material on other gloves. Some stitching can be flammable.
  • Length–Many BBQ gloves are relatively short (around 12 inches). This length may protect the hands, but it doesn’t cut it for active grilling.  Many grills are up to 35 inches deep. Reaching across a grill that deep with 12-inch gloves will leave areas of the arm exposed to pretty intense temperatures. Fifteen-inch gloves are better, but the 17 or 18-inch lengths seem to offer the best protection without sacrificing maneuverability.
  • Washable–An often  overlooked factor in BBQ gloves is their ease of cleaning. BBQ is messy, from the cooking to the eating, and while it may be easy to wash up your hands after enjoying a nice meal, cleaning some of the gloves may be a chore. Choose gloves that can be easily washed up with soap and water, both inside and out. There are always those times when you forget and stick your raw-meat covered hands into the gloves.

Ready for the Grill

BBQ mitts may revolutionize your outdoor cooking experience. Hands-on ability really improves cooking dexterity and ensures the finest cooked meals, the kind that will impress your friends and family. Choose your mitts well and enjoy your days of grilling!

Infrared grills or burners are a new type of burner that emits 100% infrared energy–which in a nutshell, is extremely comparable to micro-wave energy–which in turn uses electromagnetic energy directed at the food you are cooking.

Infrared burners are encased in steel and placed above a number of layers of stainless steel emitters to prevent airflow and only permit radiant heat. In recent years, Char-Broil has risen to the top of infrared technologies by placing a gas burner underneath a perforated metal barrier to isolate the flame from the region in which you are grilling to create infrared cooking.

Infrared cooking generates a lot higher temperatures than other grills and can heat up a lot quicker. These grills can reach a temperature of as much as 700 degrees in about 7 minutes! This kind of cooking could be comparable to searing the meat, and locking in the juices.

Infrared Grills

Infrared grill technology is a brand new advancement in home barbeque grills, although it has been used for years in restaurants and other commercial settings. Now you can use this method to get the same great taste at home that you pay for when you go out.

If you’ve been looking for a way to get your grilled meats to cook more evenly and quickly, with less time spent cleaning up afterward, an infrared grill is definitely worth a closer look.

Infrared Grills: Features

Heated by gas or propane, an infrared grill uses ceramic or stainless steel construction to transfer very high temperatures directly to the bbq on the grill rack. This method carries many advantages over the tradition convection system used in traditional grills. A higher temperature means less time cooking, which keeps meat juicy and tender. Direct heat results in an even, thorough doneness that is difficult to achieve with convection cooking. Partly because of its new technology, an infrared grill tends to cost more than a standard charcoal or gas grill, but reviewers agree that the high quality of the resulting meals makes it well worth the extra expense. You may just find that your already-delicious bbq can be made extraordinary with the help of this product.

Infrared Grills: Pros and Cons

The bottom line for infrared grills is very simple: Evenly cooked, juicy, delicious barbeque that cooks with less attention and preparation than traditional grill designs. The ceramic or stainless steel surfaces inside the grill make cleanup a very simple and quick job, allowing you to spend more time enjoying a picnic instead of cleaning up the grill. The only disadvantage is the slightly higher cost. Purchasing a used grill or keeping an eye out for special offers may get you a better price.

Infrared Grills: Are They For You?

Up until recently, the patent on the design for infrared gas grills restricted it to commercial use. If you’ve ever wondered how your favorite restaurants get steak, burgers, ribs, and chicken done perfectly in such a short amount of time, the answer is now available in a grill that you can put in your own backyard. Every bar-b-q enthusiast owes it to himself to investigate this brand new technology and see how it can take his talent to the next level.

Types of Grills Features

Types of grills have their unique advantage. Of all the grills, gas grills are the easiest to manage. They have unparalleled ease of use and convenience.  Gas grills are easy to fire up and reach cooking temperature quickly. Gas grills are easy to shut down, clean up and put away.

People who are big fans of infrared grills claim they are equal to traditional gas grills in ease of use and clean up while making the food better. Since infrared allows for much higher temperatures, it allows for more intense sear, locking in juices and flavors. Infrared grills used to be extremely high end, but prices have been dropping with entry level units in the mid-price range.

Charcoal grills offers something no other types of grills can. That is a wonderful smoky tasting, crusted, caramelized exterior on steaks and chops. For many, this flavor trumps any lack of convenience associated with cooking with charcoal. Charcoal grills come in just about any size, shape and price you can imagine. They tend to be cheaper than gas grills and assessable for most budgets.

If you come to realize that you are a carnivore that cooks most of his meals out-of-doors, you might see an investment in an outdoor kitchen as a wise move. You can design and build in your grills, outdoor refrigerators, barbeque smokers, bbq side burners or just about anything else you can imagine.

People who do not see grilling as true bar-b-q, invest in smokers fueled by charcoal or wood. The by-words for bbq smokers are “low” (temperature) and “slow” (lots of time).

The wide variety of portable grills allows for great barbeque on picnics, beach outings, camping trips and more. They are surprisingly versatile, efficient and can cook lots of food. They come in all fuel types.

Types of Grills – Conclusion

Grills have their own peculiarities, but what they have in common is outdoor cooking and celebration at its best. Choose well and establish a firm foundation to master your skills with the grill and with barbecue.
